I tried most of common Chinese Fonts I have, it does not work.

Crossover also uses wine, but Chinese support is better. I do not do anything else, Chinese menu shows properly and bible texts as well. One of Chinese input allow me to type Chinese in search field as well. I do not know how Crossover make wine something different.

Hi Costas & Zhage,

I found some hope for proper display of Chinese with wine in the webpage: http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/viewtopic.php?f=121&t=178734

It mentioned that:

1) put fonts in "/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts" (I know how to do this)
2) edit registry in wine (however, I have no idea where should I found the wine registry package by Costas):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontLink\SystemLin
Tohama="SimSun.ttc,SimSun"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontLink\SystemLink]
"Tahoma"=hex(7):53,69,6d,53,75,6e,2e,74,74,63,2c,53,69,6d,53,75,6e,00,00

3) use "env LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8 wine" (I have no idea how to change it)

4) To make fonts smoother (again, I have no idea where is REGEDIT4):

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver]
"ClientSideAntiAliasWithCore"="Y"
"ClientSideAntiAliasWithRender"="Y"
"ClientSideWithRender"="Y"

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"FontSmoothing"="2"
"FontSmoothingType"=dword:00000002
"FontSmoothingGamma"=dword:00000578
"FontSmoothingOrientation"=dword:00000001

Though I use Traditional Chinese and the setting above is for Simplified Chinese, I think it will work for Traditional Chinese by modifying some.

I would be greatly appreciate if anyone can teach me what files (file paths) exactly I need to edit.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Peace

In your programs menu select the Run command and type in "regedit". That should start wine's registry program. You can then edit the keys as needed.

See this thread for more info on font smoothing - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1364

I'm sorry, I was thinking Linux. I don't know how you run wine's programs on a mac but wine does come with a regedit program that I am assuming installs with the mac wine installation.

Thanks to you all who provide some new blood into the MAC package forum! Especially to Eliran, who shares my passion to make it work in Chinese! I would be very happy and eager to try out the Chinese typing but I do not know anything at all about the programming. I cannot open any file in which I should put code lines. The Mac does not seem to have a program to open e.g. ,lng files. So if someone can help me with that, I would jump at it. Otherwise if Costas could add the lines and post a new version to download, we can all check it out.
Apart from the font issue I still agree this is by far the best TheWORD experience on the Mac!! PTL.

Thank you Costas, does it mean I have to reinstall the program? If so, which folders or files do I need to remove before re-installation? Do I need to remove "/usr/Library/Application Support/Wine/prefixes/theWord/drive_c/Program Files/The Word"? Thanks.

You can simply use TextEdit to open it, though it found TextWrangler more useful. RightClick the file, and click open to choose other programs you want. Hope you can open the files.

Hi Costas,

I had just tried to re-download the package with the old link, Chinese still doesn't work. Do you mean you had put these lines in the mac installer? Can you send me a link for testing. Thanks a lot. Your work is greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
I have installed TW for Mac package on OSx snow leopard. I can read Thai bible however it can't be searched by typing Thai font. I wonder if someone can suggest me how to make TW work completely with Wine that will be awesome because I'm a new Mac user, thanks.
