Hi Costas,
Thanks for your feedback.
Permissions:
I tried to change permissions. I changed the permissions from only me, to include admin and everyone, to the setting 'read and write' and not just 'read only'. I did the same thing for every folder (in the WINE structure) above the level of the config.sys.ini file. It did not solve the problem. Settings are not remembered.
Strong's Number Size
This is a problem that only applies to the Chinese Bible. The other Bibles display the Strong's numbers fine! Only when I change the font for the Chinese Bible, to make the characters appear, then the Strong's numbers become very small. See the two screenshots before and after the font adjustment.
Fonts:
I still do not understand the fonts. I have put some extra fonts in the WINE folder, but this does not seem to change the fonts that I can choose from inside TheWORD when setting fonts for Bible texts.

Another things I noticed is that after using a projector, the window does not go back to full screen, but remains small. There is no way to maximize. If you click on the Minimize/Maximize (Windows style) in the top right corner, then the window becomes even smaller or goes back to its position after I unplugged the projector. There are no Red-Orange-Green buttons on the left (I usually use these to go back to full screen, nor are there handles to drag and change the size.
Blessings!

There can be no other explanation for this; The settings are stored in config.ini. Check this file.

This is a font issue; there is a solution by adding a line in the .ont file in the end:
nbe.font.standard=1

The squares are always a missing font issue. I am not sure why wine cannot see/use the fonts. What version of OS do you have? Can you display other Chinese chars in other apps?

One of the glitches in MAC is the window management; i know it has some issues; i can't solve these,

I've found that it will remember settings if I make sure not to just quit the program - especially not quitting Wine. If you close theWord first (the X in the top right Windows screen) and then quit Wine it will remember settings.

Thanks for this fantastic trick BDRoth!! I had never noticed that I always used Cmd Q to close. I am still working on a few font issues, but most problems have been ironed out with all of Costas' and your help! I will now make a list of around 50 basic modules and give the package to all our students. Or do you know when the Mac Package will get out of beta? In that case I will wait a little longer.
Thanks again and blessings to you all! [John 3:30]

Following this thread, i feel that the major issue that i would like to resolve before going public is that of fonts. Unfortunately, on my Mac i don't have this (and the installer does put the Cardo and Gentium fonts in the proper folders) so i would like to fix it. Any information from you or anyone else on this will be very helpful.

Some more feedback for TheWord:

Hi Costas,

The Fonts still seem to be a problem. I checked with a colleague first, to make sure it would not be a ‘private bug’ in my computer. He has the same problem.

The Fonts in the Windows folder inside WINE are all aliases, but they are not the same ones as on my Mac. There seem to be 4 collections of fonts:
1. The fonts from Mac Font Book, including 200 some Chinese character fonts (748 fonts)
2. The fonts in the WINE Windows folder, (102 fonts) This does not include Gentium.
3. The fonts that can be selected for the Bible texts from inside theWord program, many of them are not in the WINE Windows folder. (85 fonts)
4. The fonts in a small Fonts folder directly inside the TheWord folder (2 fonts)
These are all very different collections.

Gentium was in TheWord fonts folder, but with a clipped off name, Also It does not appear in the list of fonts I can choose in the Bible font window menu. At least I cannot see that as many fonts appear as squares! I downloaded the most recent version of the Gentium from SIL and installed it in the Windows Fonts folder in Wine. Then the Greek Bible displayed correctly. However Greek does not display correctly in all Books. E.g in Mickelson it is perfect, but Clark’s commentary has all Greek letters squared!

I do not know what system font is used for menus, as they only use Latin fonts, so eg if I want to choose Chinese as the program language, the name of the language in the list appears as squares too. And if I select it all menu items for every part of the program are in squares. The same is true for titles of books, if they are in Chinese they appear as squares. And even part of the Chinese text inside the Books, eg Chuck Smith’s (Through the Bible NT in Chinese). That is not the case on my Windows computer.

For the Bible I can set the fonts manually, and by now the Chinese Bibles correctly but only when I choose Arial Unicode MS! All other Chinese fonts don’t work or display incorrectly.

I noticed there is no way to force a certain font on the Books, right? It says only the ‘default book view fonts’, but I do not know which ones they are.

It is impossible to type Chinese words in the search box. It is possible though to copy and paste from the Bible text or your word processor. If you set the Mac to type in Chinese and then want to write in the search box, the program sounds a warning and nothing happens.

Something similar: I use a special font that can display beautifully Chinese romanization (Pinyin, like the Bible you offer on your website), but if I use that font (Garawen), it does not work, again only Arial Unicode MS works!

Blessings to you and your family,

Charles

Hello from Switzerland,

I've been using the word with Wine for a long time now, but the installation just did'nt work for me, stopped at the very end of the installation process.

God bless you in your fantastic work.

Where are the modules, installed by "theWord module installer", located?

Reason for asking: want to install all modules once for all

Where is the file "config.ini" located?

Reason for asking:

1) I tried to reinstall the program, by simple removing the package from applications folder, and install the program once again. The program automatically detect what modules I installed through "theWord module installer" in previous installation. The module installed previously is only for testing purpose. I want to uninstall it now.
2) want to change some settings directly by editing "config.ini"

Generally, the program is great, but Chinese display is a big problem. When switch to Chinese menu display, all change to squares.

Chinese typing do not work in search field as well.

theWord is located under you home directory in the folder:
~/Library/Application Support/Wine/prefixes/theWord/drive_c/Program Files/The Word

The config.ini used is the one in that folder.
You can copy directly module in the Bible and Books folders under that folder and they will work.

Concerning Chinese squares: open the chineseSimp.lng file in the same folder and on the 5th line remove the # from the 'font=Courier New' line; put in there an appropriate font that supports Chinese

Just get the required files from theword.net and use the 'theWord Module installer' application that was installed on your MAC to do so.
Do you mean something else?

Folder found, modules installation would be easier.

but regarding Chinese menu, it does not work, even I put "Arial Unicode MS"

also typing Chinese in search field not work

but I really appreciate the big step for theWord in MAC. (performance better than I use Crossover with theWord in MAC) Thanks a lot for your effort.

Chinese typing sounds like a problem indeed; I think that trying more fonts would work there; try to see what fonts are really available.
