HELP - mac displays boxes instead of letters/words

Good evening,
I have installed TheWord on my PC and my Mac and it just works fine.
HOWEVER, I installed it on a friend's new Mac book today and at first, all the words in the Bible reading window appear perfectly fine. But now I see only boxes. Even the chapter numbers are displayed as little boxes.

WHAT do I need to do to fix it - get it back to normally display letters and numbers so I can read. The Strong"s concordance, Bible tree, notes are displayed correctly.

Thank you.

Hi AnkeJStoye,

No expert in Macs, but obviously this is a font issue. You probably have the font installed and your friend doesn't. Copy the module back to your mac and see if it is corrupted (shows boxes). If not, I would reinstall TW on your friend's machine, and try to see if he has tahoma 10. Go into the Bible (Main TW menu -> File->Preferences) and then the Fonts tab. You should have Gentium, Cardo, and Tahoma (Greek/Hebrew/English) installed. Check within your friends mac to see that all three are indeed installed. (If not go to your machine and copy these fonts over to your friends machine). Reboot Mac. See if that fixes things. Try changing the last font (for English) to some font he actually has.

If that doesn't work, then it is a font issue in the module itself (my guess).

Thank you, Pastor David.
I deleted it and reinstalled TW again - using Wine and / or XQuarts.
I thank God that worked!

Costas,

Any word on when the new Mac package will be ready?

Just thought I would check in and see!

The new version 4 runs super on my Windows laptop and I'm just waiting to be able to get it on my iMac.

Thanks for all you do, v. 4 is really great!

Merry Christmas!

Blessings,
Tim

I hope really soon Tim.
I am checking to see what are the options with the missing X11 from the new MAC OS...
Apple is making harder and harder...

Hi Costas,

For your information, I had upgraded my mac to "Mountain Lion" two days ago.

I still found my theWord working through WinOnX, evening able to read Chinese bibles.

WinOnX is a free app downloaded from apple app store.
I think it uses wine as well, but fonts issues can be easily fixed.
So, I don't think worth spending time to develop another wine package.

Peace
Eliran

Hi Eliran,

I only see WinOnX for 5 dollars. Where did you see it for free?

Thanks.

What is WineOnX?

It is "WinOnX" not "WineOnX"

WinOnX is an app available for download in mac app store.
From my experience of using this app, this app is an interface for wine, giving user easy access to settings and configurations.
After installing WinOnX, just drag theWord exe file, it will open the word software software. Or you can double click the .exe file.
For English user, no further configurations needed.
I only tweet the settings for displaying Chinese bibles.
It does a great job in terms of running theWord.

Regarding price, I did not realize it is now not free.
I downloaded it for free when it first appeared in app store.
I continue to use it and upgrade without further payment.

Please read my another entry (regarding font settings) in this forum with link below:

I had just updated theword to 4.x for usage in mac through WinOnX.
All Hebrew, Greek, English, & Chinese bibles display well.

The easiest way doing it is:
1) installing theWord in compact mode in a PC
2) copy the whole folder to mac
3) open "theword.exe" file with WinOnX
