How to delete/remove unwanted Bible translations and modules

Post by csterg »

Update for version 3
To delete a Bible module:
Go to Help->Bible Info->[Module].
On the About dialog, notice at the bottom the File Path.
Close TW and just delete the file.

To delete a Book module
You just need to locate the module file and then delete it.
So open TheWord and display the module that you want to delete.
Right click on tab icon of the module, this will >open menu.
From the menu, select, "module properties".
On that dialog go down to "system properties" section and you will see the filename. At the end you can press on ... and it will open the file location and you should see the file "selected" in the window. Now you just need to close the dialog and TW so that you can delete the file.

How to delete Bibles
If you want to completely remove some Bible translations from the program (e.g. remove the files from the disk so you can save some disk space), do the following:
1. With windows explorer go to the folder where the program is installed (by default this folder is the "c:\Program Files\The Word").
2. Locate the file(s) that correspond to the translation you use. The Bible files have an extension .ont or .ot or .nt (it is usually easy to find which file corresponds to which Bible since the naming of the files usually matches the one that appears on the Bible view on the tabs). Delete the actual file and also delete the corresponding .idx file and .idx3 file (the .idx3 file only exists in version 3 and for some translations only).

For example, if you want to delete the ASV translation you should delete the following files:
- asv.ont
- asv.idx
- asv.idx3 (if it exists).

If you are unsure whether the file(s) you delete correspond to the actual Bible translation you want removed, just move these files out of this folder (e.g. move them on your desktop). Restart the program and notice whether the actual Bible that you wanted to remove has actually been removed. If yes, just delete the files, if no just copy them back and try with some other files.

Each time you change something you need to make sure:
1. That the program is not running
2. That you should restart the program to check whether what you did had any effect.

How to delete other modules (Commentaries, Dictionaries, Books, etc)
The same idea applies: you need to delete the file of the corresponding module. For these types of modules, there is only 1 file need to be deleted. The extension is always .twm.
As with the Bibles, you need some 'guessing' on which file corresponds to which module, but usually this is easy to find out. From version 3.0.0.640 there is an easy way to find the file: right-click on the module tab (in Book view) and select 'Properties'. From the 'Properties' dialog, go to the first tab and check the 'Filename'. You may click on the button with the 3 dots (...) next to it in order to open the folder where this file is located. From then you can just delete the designated file.
Don't forget that TW should not be running.

Hope this is clear,
Costas
