When TW (TheWord) is first installed, it tries to connect to the Internet, and specifically to the site http://www.theword.gr to check if there is a newer version available. This checks occurs once every week.

You can turn this option off from the main menu:

File -> Preferences -> [General] tab -> Auto-update options/Automatically check for newer version of the program and Bible texts' corrections.

I know that many people are worried about their security (and they do well), and are suspicious when a program tries to connect to the Internet. If this feature troubles anyone, s/he can turn it off.

Once more, i should repeat that there is no malware/adware/spyware in the program, even though it is free. I have no other way to persuade you on that one, sorry...

If this mean something, the softpedia software repository has certified that TheWord contains no spyware, adware or viruses (check this link: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Hom ... Word.shtml)
