Feedback on .1390

Hi, Costas,

Not exactly sure what the new button is called, but I love the ability to "maximize a screen in its zone" without having to maximize to the full screen. This will be so helpful in so many of my layouts. I'm all for this getting implemented in the next public release. NOTE: it looks like it was removed from .1391 - is that correct?

If Costas is still negative on this implementation, I hope many of you will try .1390 just to see if you like this "maximize a window in it's zone" feature. If it is really helpful (as I believe it to be) - but I am the only one to say so - it will probably be left behind.

Help!

I think it is a useful feature, and is part of the library used http://www.silverpointdevelopment.com/s ... /index.htm
So it is not a none standard feature, but something that some may not grasp instantly. If the buttons have hints stating that they are for re-size within a docking panel, they won't be confusing. But maybe this is an advanced option, rather than a default setting.

Advanced... right. If a user is advanced enough to turn it on, then he should be advanced enough to turn it back off if it is confusing. Score one for Jon!

And note this: the "Personal Devotions" layout (http://www.doctordavet.com/personaldevotionstw.html) wouldn't have to utilize "flying windows" if the user could quickly "maximize a window in its zone." Score one more....

After trying it I think it really is valuable. It beats my method of having floating views I drag all the way to the bottom of the screen so only the title bar is visible to get them out of the way until I need them again. Much more elegant!

I think its a winner unless it causes an unknown problem elsewhere.

It took some playing around with it to see how it works. Kept getting the floating window (my setting) . Then set "dock to" location, that was simple.

The show/hide caption feature has to be set to "show" otherwise the feature (button) doesn't show up, again my setting  . Should have been obvious, but took me a moment.

Don't you think that a new user will find the 4 buttons there overwhelming? Of course, the 2 extra buttons can be hidden by default

I'm sure it would be too much trouble to do this, but if it could be automated to only show the two extra buttons if multiple windows are open in one zone, that would be quite handy - and much more obvious on how to use it.

I still think Jon's option to bury it as an advanced option is the way to go (unless the above automation can be implemented easily). That way, only advanced users will be confused!

Am I reading this post correctly, in that this new feature is only in 1390, but not in 1391?

I had the same thought Dave.

@Costas, I will ask the question. Is it possible "simply" to have the base layout changed, so that it had 4 columns or any other configuration?, because there is more width to screens as standard since wide-screens, and the max docking panels for columns is 3 currently.

Oh I like this. It allows for a more efficient working environment. Could there be a shortcut key added to max and min the active window? Just a thought.
