Post Menge-Bibel wird Public Domain
Hallo,

http://sourceforge.net/projects/zefania ... nge-Bibel/

Blessings,
Raphi

Post Re: Menge-Bibel wird Public Domain
There was extensive discussion (esp. by Manfred Bergmann, and including copies of e-mail correspondence with the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft) on a "The Sword Project" / Crosswire forum clearly establishing that the actual TEXT of the Menge Übersetzung is now in the public domain!

I downloaded the above Zefania zipped file, and unzipped it to an XML-file, and then used the twimport.exe (TheWord Importer utility) to convert the resultant xml file to, and install it as a The Word Bible module.

In the Psalms, I noticed a lot of missing spaces between words. (cf. attached screenshot.)

So I opened and examined the xml file, and everywhere there where I found a missing space, I found the string: <BR art="x-nl" />

I have NO idea either what this sequence means, or if any instances of it anywhere in the XML-file serve any necessary or legitimate purpose?

I don't pretent to know what I'm doing, but using notepad++, I went ahead and automatically replaced all 3700 instances of this string with just a single space, and then converted the new xml-file to, and installed it as a The Word Bible Module. So far, it works, (now there are spaces everywhere where they should be!), and so far, my computer has neither grown horns, nor turned into a pumpkin... (fingers crossed...!)

Would appreciate any advice or correction from anyone who has any better idea of editing XML-files than I have.

Would be glad to upload either the corrected xml file, or the resultant -.ont file, if anyone can tell me (how? and) where to do so!

Note: The original XML file-size, (of sf-menge-bibel.xml as downloaded and extracted), was 7030003 bytes. It had 3700 instances of "<BR art="x-nl" />" where there SHOULD have ONLY been a single-space.

Using Notepad++ (seek and replace all), I replaced all of these instances.

16 extra characters and spaces, times 3700, = 59,200 characters/spaces.

The original XML file size is 7030003 bytes; the new file size (of sf-menge-bibel(2).xml) is 6970803 bytes, which is exactly 59,200 fewer bytes, or fewer characters and spaces.

Hi,

I just came across your post and find that you never got an answer about

As far as I can see from your jpg, this must be a special code to arrange poetic texts like the psalm with line breaks in the middle of sentences.
As I don't know whether TheWord has the capability of breaking lines within verses, your solution may be good enough.
But we also use " / " space slash space to show the poetic linebreaks. This might be a more appropriate solution, or more to the taste of Mr.Menge.
