Font Selection "bug"

Post by Brett »

Hello again,

When I click the down (scroll) arrow to choose a new font, the program:
1) hesitates for several seconds and then
2) does a double flash of font selection window
3) refreshes the entire screen and then
4) changes the selected font to whatever font is at the top of the scroll list
all before it allows me to scroll the list to select a new font.

Thank you for the excellent program!

Hello Brett,
i think you described with precision the behavior of the font select box, which is a bit annoying... I know this behavior (i noticed it when i was building this font select box) but i thought it would be kind of acceptable... OK, it is poor programming from my part to be honest :(

So:
(1) is caused by the fact that it tries to generate a preview of the font, which takes time. Maybe i should change that (but no preview of the font then...)
(2) is caused by the fact that it tries to enlarge itself to accomodate the preview
(3) i have not noticed. What is your OS?
(4) is a bug and a bit annoying! I will fix this also.

I think i should reconsider this combo box and fix it's behavior!
Can you pls answer (3)?

Font Selection

Post by Brett »

Greetings brother,

Win xp 2005 Media Center Edition.
I checked my Win98SE machine and it doesn't happen there.

This "problem" only occurs the first time a new font is selected and I don't change fonts very often.

Will we have to give up the font preview to "fix" this?

Thank you!!

Thanks for the info.
I am not sure if i will need to give up the preview, if yes i will probably choose to leave it as is ... It is used very rarely and the preview is actually useful (even if it produces a flicker :))
