Installation Error

Post by John45 »

I am trying to install tW on a Win8.1 laptop. When I start the install program it stalls at the initializing screen and won't go further. I have re-downloaded the EXE file in case the other was corrupted, but got the same results. Any suggestions?

Costas is looking into this.

It is something to do with security, and windows defender. You will probably find that the installer will eventually come out of the locked state. What I did was to exclude the installer file in windows Defender settings -> Excluded file types and locations.

Re: Installation Error with Win 8.1, Update 1

Post by gymshaw »

As one of the first software packages to be installed on a new system, I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't been successful with theWord (yet).

In the installation dialog box "Initializing, please wait"
installation still fails: "The Word - Setup (Not Responding)"

Entry into Windows Defender > Settings > Excluded files and locations
d:\download\theword\theword-setup-en.exe

Any other tips or suggestions?

Configuration: Windows 8.1 with Update 1, 32-bit on Atom Z3740 with 2 GB RAM

After waiting a while, I finally saw the installation wizard--and it works!

I assume you have a binary setup file that you have downloaded some time ago.
If you download a new setup from the main site (same version as the latest) you will not get this issue,
