roman numerals in clipboard monitor

Post by pbrouty »

Using clipboard monitor on verses that contain II (as in II Cor. 1:1) don't work. (I Cor. 1:1 works)

I just copied your post and it worked for both references. I think sometimes if there are other references before it it won't work because it's not sure where one reference ends and the other begins. I don't know if that's what you're seeing or not.

Roman numerals can be handled but not very well because it's hard to parse them properly

Jeff, were you using clipboard monitor or did you just copy the references into TheWord search box? For me, Roman numerals work in the bible reference search box in the main program but the double I (II) doesn't work with clipboard monitor. I tried highlighting just the reference, nothing before and nothing after; still nothing.
It's not a big deal, but I was just reading an article with references using roman numerals and i couldn't view those references with "II".
Thanks for your responses.

This is odd.
I don't have an issue in detecting the refs from the post, so what is different?
Can you post the actual article?
Have you tried detecting the refs as you have them in the post?
What language are you in for the interface?

Do you have an issue with

Ⅱ Cor. 1:1

I have used \u2161 in this case so I would expect a fail as it is just the one Unicode character.

Your reference didn't work either. I have english language. The reference in the original post doesn't work either; only I Cor. 1:1.
I couldn't attach the file... RTF not allowed. But it doesn't matter.

Clipboard monitor. It works in your original post, but not Jon's post because of the Unicode thing or something.

OK thanks for looking at those things.
I suppose the only area we could be different is OS and theWord build

So what is your :-
1. Operating system
2. theWord version/build (3.2.1.1167)? or earlier
3. Have you modified the english.lng file?

Lets see if we can reproduce this.

P.S if you zip the rtf file you can post it.

It's working now! I thought I had the latest version but I didn't. I had 3.2.0.xxx.
Thanks for all your concern. God bless!

Can Roman numerals be recognised as book and verse numbers yet.
Can I make and add a list in the [Search.Patterns] section the in .lng file?

Hi Phil,
I believe that Roman numerals are only detected in such instances as I Timothy 2:5 for example but not I Timothy ii:v, where it is the book level. The Roman numerals at the chapter and verse level caused problems with the detection and was removed.

I would like to try working in the [Search.Patterns] section of the .lng file.

Is there any where I can get ideas from about doing that?

I think perhaps I am not clear on my reply.

The detection of Roman numerals in verse references is not determined by the .lng file, but by theWord itself, so Costas would have to make some comment on this.

Thanks again,

Will Costas see my question or do I need to post elsewhere?
