Post Re: Its possible convert and unprotected.bblx to theword fil
Hi all, If I can make some "what I remember" comments on this list, maybe this would help. (PD means Public Domain) CR means undercopy right. A few that are under copyright may have special situations whereby Gateway Bibles or others have the copyright owners permission to post that version on their website. Having said that, you can read that Bible on their website, but to download, convert it to another format or in any other way use it is illegal. Being under permission the copyright owners can give permission any way and to anybody they want. "CR - permission" means it is under copyright, but the copyright owners basically have given a universal permission to use their work for non-profit purposes.

Your list has 95 Bibles on it, but first of all these are not 95 Spanish Bibles. I put what I best remember about each version after it, and rearranged the list. Note that on my theWord Spanish old website page for Bibles, I have 15 Spanish Bibles ready for download. If I find they are under copyright, I will remove them. These are the ones on my old website...

Of your list, these 7 are Greek and Hebrew Bibles, and some are under copyright, sorry...
Biblia Griego – Español WH Interlinear (CR)

Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia (CR)
Nuevo Testamento – Peshitta en español
Nuevo Testamento GRIEGO
Nestle Aland Interlineal Griego Espanol iNA27 (CR)
Biblia Interlineal Griego Español de Westcott y Hort (CR)

NOTE: Some of these interlinears don't have what the Spanish version that they used noted so I have them (6 of them) on my website until I can figure out if they are copyrighted or not. Some of the pure Greek and Hebrew versions are available on theWord.net website for free download or for a small fee.

These 17 are public domain works...

From what I remember, these 7 works (actually 5 because of repeats) are under copyright, but the copyright owners have given free use of their Bible version for non-profit use (some limitations may apply though).
Biblia Reina Valera Gomez (CR - permission)
Reina Valera Gomez 2004 (CR - permission)

Biblia Escrituras Edición del Nombre Verdadero (CR Permission)
Biblia Nueva Versión Purificada (NVP) (CR Permission)
Biblia Nueva Versión Purificada (NVP) (CR Permission)
Reina Valera 1062 Purificada (CR Permission)

These 49 (actually 28 because of repeats and different revisions of the same version) are the ones I pretty much remember as being under copyright, and unavailable for use without getting permission from the copyright holders. Note the 1960 is under copyright, and Costas has gone through the 2 year or so process of getting permission to use it for a fee.

So of your list of 95, I have 15 Spanish Bibles ready for download, and 7 Greek, or Greek interlinears. Here is another list of what I have available for TheWord in Spanish Bibles
http://www.twmodulos.com/indices/biblias/

If you want to download them from an old list (many links no longer work), go here
http://www.davidcox.com.mx/esword/mod_biblias.htm
and you can try to convert them. Most all of these are in e-Sword bbl (version 8) format.

Of you 95 at least 17 are public domain works and 12 are under copyright but have a universal non-profit permission with them, so that is 28. 49 (plus 28 repeats of the same Bible in your list) are definitely under copyright, and it is illegal for you to use them either in theWord or e-Sword, so when you "go back to e-Sword", just remember that theWord community is trying to protect ourself from what has happened in e-Sword, and according to what Rick Meyers has privately told me several times in emails over the years, he has a lot of pressure on him from publishing companies which accuse him and e-Sword as being pirating software because there exists so much pirated modules in e-Sword. So your use of any copyrighted modules 1) is immoral, 2) is illegal, and 3) is causing hardship and persecution on a fellow Christian because of you actions (using, promoting, etc).

I would also make another comment here on these Spanish Bibles. The few that are in public domain have some very good alternative versions. Of the public domain ones, there is not all that much there that is so great. A few well known Bibles like the NIV are among them, but there are a bunch of Hebrew names Bible, which I don't see a whole lot of difference in those from the rest except they break with the names of people that we have all learned since childhood. If you are of that persuasion, fine, but frankly there are 5 copyrighted ones above, and about that many that you can use with permission, so I am not exactly seeing what good there is to put the Reina Valera 1960 or 1909 out in a new version with hebrew names in 10 different versions? Wouldn't one be sufficient? Likewise there is the book of Mormon, the Jehovah's Witnesses Bible, and a few others that are not all that "necessary" if you ask me. May I am bias, I don't know, but with 4-6 good Spanish versions, that is sufficient for you to do some good study. I haven't a clue as to how you find the time to even check 95 different Bibles on a single passage, much less use it constantly.

If you have a particular Copyrighted Bible that you simply cannot live without, start with contacting the copyright holders, and ask them to please consider allowing Costas to put that version into a theWord module for sale, and pressure them. That will make your Bible available faster than here in this forum.

Post Re: Its possible convert and unprotected.bblx to theword fil
Let me say something about pirated versions and copyrighted Bibles:
1. It is impossible for theWord to illegaly distribute copyrighted versions, no matter how one personally feels about it (it would have legal consequences).
2. The only way to make available a copyrighted Bible available for theWord is by getting appropriate permission.

Now, here is what happens with piracy:
1. Some people feel/believe that it's fine to get copyrighted Bibles for free and that Bibles should have no copyright (for whatever reason, I don't judge, maybe they are correct, this is not the issue).
2. This leads to widespread piracy and the Bible being copied illegally up to the point that most users are unaware and don't really know or understand that it is illegal to do so.
3. When someone comes and finds out that a Bible that is 'free' for eSword (it's not really free there either, it's just a pirate copy) is a 'for-pay' module for theWord, thinks that theWord just wants to make money.

But the truth is this:
1. The only way to make a copyrighted Bible available for theWord is to get permission from the publisher
2. To get permission it costs money and it costs money to sell each copy (and to support it)
3. To even 'get even' there need to be sales
4. In order to have sales, people need to NOT make pirate copies.

This is the reason that there are NOT many Spanish Bibles! Even the so-popular Spanish RV1960 is so pirated around the NET that people think that it's free and they should not buy it... but the truth is that theWord is actually sponsoring it for those few that try to legally get a copy of it.

So, you see, the hard truth is that most of the copyrighted Spanish Bibles will probably never be available for theWord because there is no way that people will pay for them (they are used to piracy), and there is no way that they will be put up illegally!

So, it doesn't really matter how good or bad theWord is, it doesn't really matter how many cool features are added in the future, it doesn't matter that it's free; reality is that piracy will not allow the expansion of Spanish Bibles unless people realize what is involved (and to be honest, although i would like to at least include the Spanish NIV, i cannot do so because i cannot really sponsor another Spanish Bible)

Sorry to bring out the truth, this is reality, and this is where piracy leads (apart from all other moral issues already discussed).

Hi all.
I'm a spanish user and long ago had this very same conflict because the spanish resources are quite scarce but finally noticed that with the available Bibles from the official TheWord site I need no more, when I want to dig deeper in the study here's one method I use, I have a legally copy of RVR60 and in compare view when I don't understand the theme I'm reading I look into de ABP strong code (for us who understand a bet of english it's easy to find the right translation into spanish), then if I want to look for the morph code I just check any of the greek bibles from TheWord and with the help of commentaries and strong dictionaries I can (most of cases) figure out what the Bible is saying.

I suggest to any spanish user to spend the money to buy RVR60 and LBLA or NBLH, because with this modules plus the free ones it's more than enough, even more, now we have the RV1909 with strong numbers :D .

God bless,
Manuel.

Costas,
Thanks for your lengthy explanation. The point of my original post was not that theWord is doing anything wrong. These are the legal realities that exist. Praise God for theWord!

I believe strongly that the Bible should not be treated like any other book, even by those who do the work to translate it. These are God's Words and not mans and man should not claim any right over them. Any work that is done should be supported just like any other ministry. This is just my opinion, I may be wrong.

My favorite translation used to be NKJV. I have paid for this probably 40 times. I have spent probably $1000 on the NKJV Bible over the years. I am frustrated with many Chrisitian publishers and how they handle the Bible. I now use mostly free/ public domain translations now. We are very spoiled in English speaking countries.

Blessings,
Peter

@pfpeller / since your favorite used to be the NKJV:

I've been reading the KJV for so long
that I can mentally replace 'you' for 'ye' and
'know' for 'knowest' and etc. so quickly that
it is transparent both in silent reading as well
as public speaking (depending upon the audience of course).

My point is:
With a little practice you can easily do the same and you'll never have to pay for another translation.

Cheers

Well, in Greece we don't have this problem since we don't have many modern Greek translations. I use the rather old Vamvas translation (1870) which is very close to the original. But i do see the problem of purchasing the same translation over and over and i totally share with the frustration.
I agree that this is something that noone likes; I actually don't want to make any public statement on that, I just wanted to bring up the reality that we all have to face.

Post Re: Its possible convert and unprotected.bblx to theword fil
If you are tempted to use a copyrighted work, ask yourself a simple question, what is my purpose is using this work? If it is 1) for personal moral edification, or 2) for preparation of a sermon or Sunday School class, then nothing good will happen by using it without God intervening and opening your understanding, and showering a blessing from heaven. Would God do that with a pirated copy of something?

In other words, would God really bless a sermon I may write if I type it on a stolen typewriter? I don't think so. So how can God bless you using an illegal tool?

Do I like paying for what I feel should be free? No. Go get a pen and write something just as good yourself, and after spending 200 hours on, put it out for free for people to criticize that you didn't do it right, it isn't enough, you didn't put enough work into, etc, etc. But the solution is for good talented people to invest their time and energy for free, and put it out for free.

Don't use pirated stuff, and refuse to use Bible versions like the NIV because they have commercialized God's word. Just refuse to buy that version of the Bible or use it in any context. They will get the idea when sells drop, popularity drops, and when there is a great negative blow-back against their "commercialization of God's word".

Just my thoughts.

I am sure there may be 90 or more, but I would not be sure they are legally free.

... and another question is, how to use 90 in parallel for a target-oriented bibel study...!?!
My own experience is, that you need 2-3 in your own language, maybe 2 in another (English very often sufficient), and you get the meaning of a passage very clear with that small set!

Too much things in parallel are in fact an obstacle for digging unto the ground!

Just my 2 cents -

Hi Harmut, I would agree and disagree with you. You are right that when you multiply the number of versions it is more a hinderance than a help. I disagree with you about the other langauge Bibles. If you use more than 3-4 versions, you need to go to the originals after that, and not to other foreign language Bibles. There is no substitute for Greek and Hebrew originals. I am fluent in Spanish and English, and I jump between both languages at time to do some studies "will" (a force of the conscience) is impossible to trace down in an English Bible version. In spanish, the future and "a person's will" are two different words. That is an advantage, but it is not enough to learn a foreign language in order to do that. In Strong's Greek, and I can trace it down better than in Spanish.
