the font for popups is different to the window that generates it. This causes issues as not all characters are supported. See screen shot.
I could be missing it but have looked everywhere for the setting. I'm running tW (build 1481) under wine on ubuntu 16.10
Font is SBL Greek, bible is SBLGNT

Re: Popup font
Go to main menu of theWord ->File->Preferences->Fonts tab. The Greek font set here is used for that popup. On Windows 10 we have it default set to Gentium

Re: Popup font
Interesting. The popup seems to have an issue with polytonic Greek.
Will have to get some comment from Costas.

Re: Popup font
Looks like it's the 'SBL Greek' specifically that is not recognized.
Can you please try the Gentium or another Greek font that has not space in its name?
Try different Greek unicode fonts to see if you can find a pattern

Re: Popup font
Just for testing I installed Ubuntu 16.10 32bit in a virtual machine.
I found that it is something to do with the word "[space]Greek" in the font family name.
It worked ok if it was "SBL[space]test", so that proves it is not a space issue.
The part I don't understand is that SBL Greek font displays correctly in the Bible view, but does not for the popup.
On Windows 10 there is not an issue in either place, figure that one out.
I used a font creator to edit the internal details as shown. The popup is now ok. .

Re: Popup font
thanks so much, I've no idea how you even thought to look their.
I used font forge and altered the family name. All good now.

Re: Popup font
I think i know what that is.... An old bad habit of font creators to assign the script name (e.g. Greek) dynamically to the font...
So, instead of having a unicode font (e.g. SBL), you have "SBL Greek", "SBL Hebrew", etc... I remember there has been an incompatibility there that we fixed some point in the past. Maybe we applied this to the Bible view only?
Jon, do you remember? Can you look in the changelog?

Re: Popup font
The only problem font I recall in the past was Ezra SIL.....
I notice that there is a better font [SBL BibLit Font] to use from SIL that covers Greek, Hebrew, Latin, and transliteration, and does not have the naming issue.
It would be better to use this font than have modified versions floating around.
