Hi, if you have not, it would probably be a good idea to present this info at the Ubuntu forum, or probably better at the "wine forum" http://www.winehq.org

Hm, i am not sure where else to look; maybe the wine forum can give a hint and then we can take it from there,

You may also want to try re-creating a new xserver configuration by executing "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" as a root user. If you are using a proprietary video driver you may also need to next go to Additional Drivers in the System menu and re-enable the proprietary driver.
Re: The Word on Maverick Meerkat (Ubuntu 10.10)
I try Ubuntu 10.10 and TW on a desktop PC, (it"s the same pendrive version of TW) and it has NO problem at all. So probably my laptop (ASUS K50IJ with Intel GMA X4500 video) has something... I write my issue to wine forum... we will see.

Re: The Word on Maverick Meerkat (Ubuntu 10.10)
Hi
I too have the highlight line appearing in black (wine 1.3 on Ubuntu 10.10). Until a solution / explanation is available you can change the highlight colour to white so you can view the text (and use the verse number at the top left to identify where you are in the text).
The Ubuntu Wine and TheWord installs are very straightforward, and no problems using TW so far - this is very much appreciated, so thanks for posting this thread!!

Re: The Word on Maverick Meerkat (Ubuntu 10.10)
Let me ask pls: if you change the highlight color to yellow or green, do you still get a black background?

Re: The Word on Maverick Meerkat (Ubuntu 10.10)
Yes, if I change the current verse highlighting color, the same when its gray. The short verses are ok, their background is green or yellow, but the longer verses are total black.
And if I highlight a portion of the verse (which is black), in the higlighted area the text will be seen in white (picture)

Re: The Word on Maverick Meerkat (Ubuntu 10.10)
I've changed my system back to Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS and in this platform TW works well. No "black verses". Thank you again for Your help. (in the winehq forum there vere no response for my problem)

Re: The Word with wine
I have this black background issue with Fedora 14.
From the screenshot:
It looks like the background is not specified but assumed (which would work on windows but not wine), both for the Bible options menu and the verse highlight.

Re: The Word on Maverick Meerkat (Ubuntu 10.10)
I installed the VM and tried theWord there and i don't get this problem.
I tried with wine-1.3.14 (the one installed by the distro's installer)
