Suggestion: Make Format Painter optionally persistent

Post by paul1149 »

I've been doing work formatting modules, and discovered the Format Painter. It works great, but it doesn't seem to have the ability to persist so that you can do repetitive formatting changes? With LibreOffice you can double-click to keep FP active until clicked again, and this is hugely labor-saving.

I'm in theWord 6.0.0.1516.

Just a thought. Thank you.

What I did when I had a lot of format cloning to do, it copy/paste to LO and do it there.

Yep. Nice suggestion. When making formatting updates, it would be helpful if that button stayed active until otherwise turned off. At least somehow make an option for it to stay engaged until disengaged, if you don't want to make it sticky (I wouldn't be surprised if that option doesn't already exist and I just haven't found it yet).

At the time it was implemented 2014, the action did not exist for the control used and Costas had to make it by hand. Perhaps in the last 7 years the feature has been added to the control. Will have to check with Jonathan.

Hey, Jon,

If I could push a button to "like" your post, I would. :)

Thanks.
Actually Jonathan has been looking into this feature and it is looking hopeful for it having a persistent mode in some way.
No idea if it will see daylight soon, so stay tuned.
Oh and the actual control that is used in theWord still does not have a format painter inbuilt.
