BRP Templates - How to Create?

Post by engellion »

Hello.

Costas mentioned over here viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3912:
One of the things that are required for the new version is a set of 'reading plan templates' that the end user may download. Although the new version can automatically create new plans with a variety of settings, there are 'special purpose' reading plans (with specific focus on passages and combinations) that would be interesting to have.
I would like to create some "special purpose" reading plans, eg. Reading through the Bible chronologically in one year? I have a plan in a plain text file that is already split up into 365 respective daily verse combinations for this purpose. How do I make a template out of it?

Do I just cut and paste into the "Passages to include" field under "Custom" in the "Setup a new Bible reading plan" area? Or is there another way to do this?

Thanks,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
can you tell me what the text file looks like? Can you paste a few lines here?

Hi Costas,

Here is a few lines of what I started with:
  • Day 170 --- Ecclesiastes 1-6
    Day 171 --- Ecclesiastes 7-12
    Day 172 --- 2 Chronicles 9 - 1 Kings 10-11
    Day 173 --- Proverbs 30-31
    Day 174 --- 1 Kings 12-14
    Day 175 --- 2 Chronicles 10-12
    Day 176 --- 2 Chronicles 13-16 - 1 Kings 15:1-24
    Day 177 --- 1 Kings 15:25-16:34 - 2 Chronicles 17
    Day 178 --- 1 Kings 17-19
    Day 179 --- 1 Kings 20-21
    Day 180 --- 2 Chronicles 18 - 1 Kings 22
I cleaned it up to look like this:
  • Ecclesiastes 1-6
    Ecclesiastes 7-12
    2 Chronicles 9; 1 Kings 10-11
    Proverbs 30-31
    1 Kings 12-14
    2 Chronicles 10-12
    2 Chronicles 13-16; 1 Kings 15:1-24
    1 Kings 15:25-16:34; 2 Chronicles 17
    1 Kings 17-19
    1 Kings 20-21
    2 Chronicles 18; 1 Kings 22
Each day is now one line. Not sure where to go from here. Should I combine all the contiguous chapters into one passage range, and place all ranges on one line like this:

Ecclesiastes; 2 Chronicles 9; 1 Kings 10-11; Proverbs 30-31; 1 Kings 12-14; 2 Chronicles 10-16; 1 Kings 15:1-16:34; 2 Chronicles 17; 1 Kings 17-21; 2 Chronicles 18; 1 Kings 22

So please help with what I need to do. I was hoping to make this so you can use it as one of your downloadable special purpose templates :-)

Thanks.
Paul.

I am afraid i will need to write some code for it;
Actually it's quite easy but some coding would help.
Do you want to mail me this file? I will probably work to create a new tab in the Importer where you can directly enter such ranges and convert to a RP,

Build 1305 of theWord allows you to do this directly from within theWord:
In Step 2 of the wizard, you can now enter the actual daily session passages, instead of Books.
Please, test for yourself, feedback appreciated (and testing)

Thanks for this Costas! It pasted in no problem. I really like the fact that now you can create any combination of passages to use as the daily reading schedule. Wonderful! :D

I have sent you an email regarding use of the plan as an official module. The original is not mine. See the email for details.

Blessings,
Paul
