Is it possible to write one's own commentaries linked to verse(s)? That aren't linked to verses, chapters, or books?
Is it possible to write topic notes with the ability to add to/edit on various topics?

Yes, search the forum for My_Commentary
Re: writing/editing commentaries or notes
Or the help manual: https://www.theword.net/manual/user_modules.htm
To start: File>New user module... then select module type (Commentary, Dictionary, Generic book...)

The modules made as default are not clear?
Maybe there is more to the question. Are we answering it for you?

Re: writing/editing commentaries or notes
I am doing better and you have answered some of my questions thank you all very much.
My latest struggle is with the Bible translation that comes up when I hover over a verse in the "My subject-notes" window. For example when I hover over "Exo 34:6-7" in my notes, a Hebrew version of the verse pops up. I can't figure out how to change the Bible version that pops up.

File>Preferences>Advanced>Bible view specific>
You can have "the Default Bible...."
You can have "the Active Bible ...."
I prefer Choose Bibles...>
There you can check the Bibles you want shown.

A hearty "Thank you" to theWord Team.
Please how do I order the listing of my Topics in SubjectNotes ALPHABETICALLY for easier referencing?
Thanks for your kind support.

There isn't an automatic way to do it in the program. You have to move them as described in the help
