Have Verse-Notes been deprecated, or still functional?

Post by l_d_allan »

This rusty fan of TheWord has been lazy, and never learned how to incorporate my own notes into Bible verses. Is this related to Verse-Notes?

For example, I now want to be able to associate some thoughts with 2 Cor 1:6

6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.
(My-Note: this well-fed American male isn't able to really comfort a starving Syrian mother, as that is far outside my experience. However, I could perhaps comfort another former athlete with failing knees, and unfortunately is angry at God.)

I looked around Help, but didn't find anything. There was some info about importing old notes from a previous version.

My speculation is that the Verse-Notes capability might have been very difficult to reliably implement (even for 10x Costas), and maybe not used that much.

Hi Lynn,

The function works very well, all you need is a user editable commentary. One should have been installed automatically and was called "My Verse Notes", and you can add notes to verses, verse ranges, chapters and books.

You can make more modules if needed: https://www.theword.net/manual/user_modules.htm

And this gives more detail on how to add notes: https://www.theword.net/manual/editing_user_modules.htm

This very rusty TW user had been vaguely aware of "verse-notes" but never tried that feature out. Looks Very Good so far.

Is there a tutorial for using verse-notes? If not, would that possibly be something I could help with?

Separate question: is there a way to have two windows next to each other, side-by-side rather than top-over-bottom? Then I'd have the Bible text on the left, and the verse-notes on the right.

(I'm being lazy here at Wed eve Bible study ... that functionality is probably not difficult.)

You can put as many windows as you want whereever you. The manual talks on this.

There is a video tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5Jflkd ... 3E&index=7

It seems to cover verse notes a near the beginning a couple of minutes or so in, and towards the end. Glancing through I didn't see if he addressed verse ranges, but all you have to do is update the topic verse reference to cover the range of verses.

This lists other tutorials. https://www.theword.net/index.php?artic ... &l=english

(I haven't looked at many of them myself. I seem to be one of the odd people who rather read manuals and such than watch videos.)

The fascinating thing about TW - it contains so much power and versatility that one really must read the manual and search the forum. I have found very few limitations, and now with the ability to export book topics it's even gone a step further! It's really important to stay up with the beta releases. They are almost always rock solid.

Wow ... glad I asked.

I did wrestle with the Verse-Note capability, and am impressed with the implementation. I'd held off tackling that capability until getting confirmation from the support replies that it hadn't been phased out.

Perhaps it should be a separate question, but is highlighting verses with different colors still supported? Does the tutorial / video cover that? (and sorry that I'm again being lazy).
