Hi guys,
I'm running TW 5.0.0.1505 on Wine in Linux. I'm trying to reformat Robertson's Greek Grammar to clean up the short line lengths.
So I copied it to LibreOffice (latest version), used a macro to consolidate the lines, and then pasted it back. All I get are rectangles, no matter which font I apply.
The text is mostly English, with some Greek.
I then pasted into a text editor (Geany), set to Windows line endings format, where everything looks fine. I recopied, and pasted. Same story.
I also tried a different text editor, kate; same story.
I don't see a Paste > Special in this version of TW.
I'm stumped why this is happening.

Re: Pasting into book module produces only squares
Strange, I don't see it either in the official repo or on WM.com.
It's GRAMMAR OF THE GREEK NEW TESTAMENT IN THE LIGHT OF HISTORICAL RESEARCH
BY A. T. ROBERTSON
Without a link, it's 23MB that would have to be uploaded.
I found a copy of it at https://www.google.com/books/edition/A_ ... MAAJ?hl=en
A test copy/paste from that PDF worked fine character-wise, but there are no paragraph divisions.
Ok, I just found a superb copy of it at https://bibletranslation.ws/down/Robert ... rammar.pdf (large file).
It's formatted perfectly in pdf, and I think I will just leave it in that format and read it that way.
That doesn't answer the question why this happened, but I'll let that go.
Thanks Jon.

That immediate brought it up. Quirk, I guess.JG wrote:Install the latest beta please 1516
Thanks again.
Re: Pasting into book module produces only squares
Well when you opt to use the beta you can expect this sort of thing, and worse. Also note that we do not really support things on Linux. Again that is at ones own risk, as some components of theWord will not be guaranteed or even be tested to work there.

Re: Pasting into book module produces only squares
No problem. Just a weird thing that never occurred might happen. I'd say TW works about 98% on Wine. The chief difficulty is in font rendering, an endemic weakness of Wine. But I've found a few fonts that do render well.
Re: Pasting into book module produces only squares
To smooth the font rendering in Linux see http://www.webupd8.org/2009/09/enable-s ... linux.html.
After enabling font smoothing, I've found Dejavu Serif to be a very nice looking font in Linux that contains a large number of character sets.

Re: Pasting into book module produces only squares
Yes, I've done that. As superb as the KDE desktop is, I find that Wine doesn't work quite as effortlessly on it as on XFCE. It takes a good 8 seconds more to open TW on it, and rendering isn't as good.
DvS is also one of my best fonts. But for most situations, I like Open Sans Semibold even more, only it doesn't handle some Greek stress marks.
