Improve Search Window by adding more Bible; Better Interlinear Text versions

Post by Jacob11 »

An essential feature for Search window is needed which includes two or more bible versions in the results, not just one. This is required when searching for a Greek phrase in a Greek version, and then checking how is that phrase translated in English version(s). For that we have to click on every verse in the search results to check the english translations or click/focus on an English bible to change all results to English. But we are still unable to compare both side by side ; While seeing in English we would wish to see Greek. So the search window should include more bibles.

Remember that search feature is among the most important features.

Also, the "aligned" view of search result as in Logos, would be great

Also, the English text of the interlinear versions have a lot of gap in them. We need options to customize size of English and Greek fonts. Right now there is no feature that reduce english size; there should be tiny english font just touching the Greek text, to save space by having narrow and more content in view. As seen on the Marvel Parallel bible interlinear. https://marvel.bible/index.php?text=MPB&b=43&c=1&v=13 Smaller english text and bigger Greek.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding but you can search multiple Bibles at one time. This is explained in the help file.

Additionally, you can have multiple Bibles in the Bible compare view, where you can compare them.

No, when multiple bibles are selected it will search separately on all of them. But when searching for the Greek phrase, it will not show the English versions. Our goal is to search one version (Greek) and it should display the selected English versions parallel to it to show the translation. We have to select the results to see the translations in the bible window. That's the real purpose of searching, to immediately see how the phrase is being translated throughout. This is even missing in the Logos. The English versions will be additional only for parallel display, not in the search domain, since we are only searching on the Greek text.

Make a compare set of the Bibles you want to search.
Now you can search that set. To see the corresponding verse of the Bible, use the compare Bible view and set that to the same set, Also go to the File -> Preferences -> Advanced and in the Bible view specific area click "Choose Bibles". There you can select the saved set, so that when you hover any results in the search, it will popup all the searched Bibles. Also if you click on a search result it will display in the compare Bible view along with the other translations of the set that you have used for all these operations. (might need to review other settings in the Advanced section such as "Only display additional translations when SHIFT is pressed". Also in the search options tab, uncheck "Jump to searched Bible when clicking on a verse"
Now you can easily compare the verses in a couple of different ways.

That still requires clicking on each verse to see the Greek text or results in other bibles. I have already 3 bible windows opened so compare set is not a new thing for this.

I have thought about another feature in search or through search is to highlight the word or phrase in the given chapter in the Bible window. Like I wanna search for "law" in Romans 7, and when I search it, there should be an option "search on current page"- that will just highlight all "law" in the Romans 7, and if I move to Romans 8, it will highlight automatically, on any chapter. This is like how we hover over a word in Logos, then it highlights all other instances of that word in the chapter.

I will note this suggestion.

What I was suggesting about showing or changing English versions from the Greek search result can be shown from https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/le ... 0%E1%BD%B0 site where we can choose which Bible version the search result should display. But it still doesn't show both Greek and English versions simultaneously, the feature I am suggesting here.
