BSB Berean Bible displaying very strange dashes

Hi guys !

We love TheWord, it's gotta be the best Bible software ever - thanks!

We just installed the amazing BSB Berean Bible, however it is displaying some very strange dashes "-" between words all throughout the Bible.

It only occurs with this particular Bible, and we have tried changing settings, layouts, skins, even installing on a different computer altogether, however it still displays the strange dashes.

They make the BSB unreadable.

Please see the attached screenshot.

What do I need to change to remove those dashes from all throughout scripture ?

I believe this is intentional. If you turn on the interlinear you will see that there is Greek info in this dashes.

So does that mean if using this module:
Berean Study Bible / Reverse Interlinear (BSBRevINT) 4.1 MB 08-Mar-2023 Module version: 1.7

that there are no settings we can change to make it read cleanly ?


We believe the Berean bible will become the worldwide standard in a few years.
Especially because 1 month ago they made the entire project public domain


What do we need to do to get the BSB readable in TheWord without the dashes ?

Does it mean there needs to be another version of the module which is Not interlinear ?

Just uploaded a new version of the "BSB Reverse Interlinear" version 1.8 id=b250 filename=BSB Reverse Interlinear.ont

The - should only appear when in the interlinear mode, so you should only see them when the "i" key is pressed. At the present time you can only find out what they mean by making the Strong's and Morph visible.

Hi guys !

The new BSB module 1.8 has been working great - thankyou so much!

However there is an issue.

For some reason it runs about 20 times slower than all the other modules.

- Example 1:
When Searching, most bibles take half a second,
however when searching within the BSB, it takes about 20 seconds.

- Example 2:
For Lists with 300 verses, if the verses are all KJV or other bibles, it takes about 2 seconds to add a new verse.
however if the verses are all BSB, it takes about 15 seconds to add a new verse to the list.

I understand the BSB has a lot more content deep inside it, even if we don't use that content.
The BSB is our new favorite/standard Bible, so we want to use it for everything,
even if just reading the english text.

Are there any settings we can change to make the BSB fast like very other Bible ?

If you are certain that the text you are searching for is only OT or NT you can set a range in the "detailed" tab. (If you are like me it gets left on, and I wonder why I cannot find things lol)

Yes we understand those options, and we usually keep whole bible search turned on too

It's not so much the concern about the speed when searching,
it's more a concern that Something might be wrong.
Is it possible something is wrong causing it to take so much longer ?

In particular it would be great to fix the speed when adding to Lists,
so we don't need to wait 15 seconds each time we add a verse to a list.


But more so, is it possible something is wrong ?
Also are there any settings we can change to make the BSB fast like the other bibles ?

I wonder if it could be the size of the List that it is being added to. Can you share your list for me to try.

Hmm I maxed out the verse list (3000) verses, and each multiple verse addition did not take 15 seconds. If you make a new list is it still taking 15 seconds to add verses?

It does take a little longer based on the number of verses in the list.
However with the BSB it takes about 20 times as long!

The simplest way to experience the issue,
using a List with even 3,000 verses,
if you have set ALL the verses in the List to say KJV,
and then after that add another verse from the KJV,
it is reasonably quick.

Then for the compare test if you set ALL the 3,000 verses to BSB,
and then after that add another verse from the BSB,
it takes about 20 times as long with the BSB compared with the kjv.

Can you replicate that comparison ?

I see a delay in adding verses when the list is near its limit of 3000 entries, but it is not BSB specific. I tried other Bibles with the result that there was also a delay. It needs some investigation just to see if there can be an improvement. Not sure when that will be looked into.
@jonathangkoehn Please add this to investigate.

Jonathan, I added this to JIRA so we at least don't forget it.

If you guys are Not experiencing a delay Specifically with the BSB,
then maybe something is wrong on my end !!


Can you confirm, if you have a list of just 300 verses with them ALL being KJV, then add a verse,
Then a list of just 300 verses with them ALL being BSB, then add a verse,

is there any Time difference in adding the verse to the 300 KJV list compared to the 300 BSB list ?

If there's not a significant difference in the time, at least 10 times longer,
then that means there is something wrong with my installation.

If you can zip and post your my.vsls.twm file I would like to use it so we are on the same data.

For me there is at times a delay with any module, and this is to be expected as it gets larger.
