Organizing Books

Post by NorrinRadd »

I spent hours organizing my dictionaries and saving the "module set," only to have The Word promptly blow it up. It appeared on the main screen, then I went back to the Define Module Sets window and it reverted to an old setup. There was no way I could find to recover the one I just created.

How do I delete old, unwanted module sets?

Once I have a setup I want, how do I make sure it "sticks"?

How do I back it up so I can easily restore it if it fails to "stick"?

Honestly, read the help file and it should say
https://www.theword.net/manual/module_sets.htm

Thank you, but that didn't work.

I did manage to delete all the old module sets.

I spent another hour or so recreating the set I wanted. I named it and saved it. I exited back to the main program and things were fine.

I went back into the Define Module Sets page and saved the same set by another name as backup, intending to have one copy by the original name and a backup by the new name.

I exited back to the main page and it had blown up again. All categories and subcategories were replaced by "Thayer." This was true for both modules.

Clearly we need to investigate this.
But where to start?
Could you post a zip file of module.list and config.ini

What version of theWord is it?
Are you using Windows ?

Sorry, I've had a busy few days.

TheWord version 6.0.1.1533. In case I didn't type that correctly, the "Check for newer version" feature confirms I have the most current version.

Windows 11 Pro.

Thank you
A couple of things that were strange.
You appear to have a module with an id of just a full stop "."
and two modules with the same id of nc3 which is "IVP Bible Background Commentary, New Testament"

The only way forward is for you to add modules to your set one at a time and see when it breaks

not sure about Buster0
So you were testing? I really don't know how to get to the bottom of this issue. It seems unique to you for some reason.
I suggest to delete all your sets and fix the id=. which was the MHCC. Probably better to download again from Add Titles

The adventure continues...

I shut down The Word and opened its folder in Explorer. I looked through the modules and noticed one whose only "name" was a couple of dots. I assume it was something that got corrupted, or possibly installed incorrectly. I deleted it. I looked around a little more, then closed that window.

The next time I opened The Word, it was fine. My dictionaries and commentaries are set up the way I want them, with the headings as they should be.

If they go haywire again, I'll let you know.
