theWord on Linux Mint sucess
Well after Windows Defender decided that theWord had a Trojan embedded in it and then nuked my installation, I decided to give a shot at installing it on my newly installed Linux Mint drive. I used Playonlinux as the wine front end. I had never made an attempt to run a windows program on Linux before and was surprised that it worked so seamlessly. The only issue I have noticed is the Font used for the Strong's resources seems to be borked.
Just thought I would make a mention of it working on Mint so that others that might be inclined to give it a go.
Edit: Went back and played around a bit and it was user error on Strongs. It appears to display using several Fonts including the default ones without apparent error.

Re: theWord on Linux Mint sucess
I've been running version 6 successfully under Wine/Linux Mint for the past year or two, but after upgrading to version 7 I'm experiencing a couple of minor but annoying problems. First, the "spash" window doesn't go away, and second, it doesn't remember changes to the screen layout. I have to select my saved layout each time I start up the program. I'm wondering if any others who are running version 7 under Wine are experiencing the same thing. I'm running Wine version 9.0

What desktop environment are you running?
Are you able to upgrade to Wine 10?
I'd suggest using the beta install (https://www.theword.net/files/setup/getmulti.php/en) to create a new profile for tW7 and see if you still have the same issues with that particular profile. For me, the splash window seems to become a hidden window instead of actually closing. This causes problems when trying to minimize and restore the program. I don't have any issues with it not remembering the layout that it had when closed. Maybe there is some sort of issue with your config.ini file.

I'm using the Cinnamon desktop, and I also upgraded to Wine 10.0, which made no difference.
Re: theWord on Linux Mint sucess
Have you tried installing to a separate profile? I don't know if the splash window issue might be connected to the issue I also see, but I don't have any problems with layout restoration in Wine, which makes me suspect that maybe the config.ini file is corrupted in some way.

Yes, I just tried installing to a separate profile, which also didn't help. Perhaps I will also try a fresh install of Wine...
Re: theWord on Linux Mint sucess
To run tW7 from a clean Wine profile, you might try opening a console to the directory where you installed the new portable installation of tW7. Then type 'export WINEPREFIX=~/wine-theWord && wine theword.exe'.
Re: theWord on Linux Mint sucess
I've tested this with the Cinnamon 5.6.1 desktop on the current Debian Stable using Wine 10.0. I did not experience any problems with the restoration of the layout when closing and restarting theWord. But while I also didn't have the splash screen stay displayed after tW was started, the taskbar did show that there was a blank window that was still open. There was a little 2 on the taskbar icon that indicated that two windows of tW were being managed (with one being blank) even though only one instance of the application was started. So even though the splash window wasn't visible, it still isn't closing properly. So that part confirms what I've been seeing in KDE.
The version of Cinnamon in Debian Stable is likely much older than what you are running, so maybe that explains why the splash window would be visible for you but blank for me.

All is well since I did a complete reinstall of Wine (version 10).

Does the taskbar icon not show that there are two open windows for theWord, with one being blank?
