The Word on Maverick Meerkat (Ubuntu 10.10)

Post by Wimn »

The Word is running great here under Ubuntu 10.10, downloaded quite a lot of greek fonts from synaptic. One has to try out different fonts in order to get it all in working order, for instance the index of LSJ. I've been running The Word under Ubuntu different versions for 2 years now without any major problems. It's getting better and better as the the linux desktops (Gnome, KDE) and Wine evolve. I'm using Wine 1.3.5 now, a beta-version. The repository for Ubuntu is here:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa

If I can be of any help, just let me know!

Greetings,

Wim

Hy Wimn, I have a strange bug with TheWord on Ubuntu 10.10. In the Bible text window the actual bible verse is totaly black, except the short (only a few word) sentences, they are - as normal - grey, and visible. I have no idea why is this. And it is the same in every Bible versions on my program, Hungarians, and English versions as well.
If You have any idea please let me know.
Thank's: Attila from Hungary

This looks like a wine issue.
Check also Tools->Bible view options->Current verse highlighting color

Today I install Wine 1.3.6 but it's the same.
Current verse highlighting -> sort sentences are OK its backround are gray.
And it not depends on different Bible versions, or font type it's all the same

I try to install TW with Crossover, and it's exactly the same bug!? I don't understand it. But it seems that it's not a wine problem...

This is getting even more strange.
Can anyone else repeat this in another linux distro?
Do you suspect the distro here?

Maybe this is something to do with using a skin. It is strange to note that some of the icons in theWord have a thick black border to them. I assume this is the default skin, and that you have not changed it? Perhaps you should disable the skins and see if this fixes it.

Unfortunately it's the same with or without skin...
I am using Ubuntu 10.10 32bit.
See the Bible view options window, the background is black...
Thank You for Your help.

I installed and tried wine 1.3.6 on debian and i see no problem (for this one).
I have no answer; i suspect something with the x-server.
Is there a 'mode' that will not cause this issue?
There are several wine setting that could affect this (i imagine)

I would suggest renaming the .wine directory in your home directory to something else and then re-install TheWord setup and let it build a new .wine directory and see if that solves your problem. This way you can see if something got corrupted in your wine configuration.
